Book World Prague

Book World Prague is an international book fair and literary festival, which features a colorful program for visitors and exhibitors. It is filled with professional seminars, author readings, presentations by publishers, meetings with writers, awards ceremonies for outstanding publishing and creative achievements as well as a few side cultural happenings (music concerts, slam poetry performances and books related exhibitions). Newly The Book Night program takes place too, inspired by internationally known Museum nights.

With more than eight hundred literary events is The Book World Prague considered also as the biggest literary festival in Czech Republic.

Every year the fair hosts around five hundred exhibitors from more than thirty countries and regions of the world. Hosted by the Industrial Palace, one of the most important Art Nouveau buildings in the city, designed and built in 1891, the fair features an annual Guest of Honor country, which showcases its book market, literature and culture to attendees in a variety of ways.

The 25th anniversary Book World Prague 2019 counted among the most successful in its history with a record-breaking attendance of over fifty thousand visitors and included also other fields of development of the fair’s program and activities. The Café Evropa pavilion hosts a discussion on the future of Europe, the continent’s most pressing needs and the role Czech Republic plays in it. The high interest among visitors proved how important this topic currently is.

Very popular part of the festival became The Growing with the Book pavilion, a venue and a project designed for children. Here, the youngest readers can talk to their favorite writers and illustrators, participate on various literary workshops. The traditional Readers’ Challenge is also held here and results of literary competitions are announced.

For the 26th Book World Prague main guest of honor was chosen Poland. As this event has been cancelled due to the pandemic situation, the book fair team will focus on the on-line extension of possible activities, organizing live TV author readings and interviews, aiming for any possible meaningful support of publishers and literary world.
