LGA – Latvian Publishers Association

The LGA (Latvian Publishers Association – LGA) is the trade association for Latvian publishers operating in Latvia who publish books and digital products in Latvian. The Association was founded in 1993. LV has 30 members – mostly SMEs: general and academic publishers. It is the founder and organizer of annual book design competition “Zelta Ābele”(Golden Appletree, since 1993) which has become the cultural prize of national significance since 2016 and is celebrated by huge prize-giving ceremony and several exhibitions each year, and the collection becomes the part of Stiftung Buchkunst exhibitions. Since mid-2000’s LGA organizes Riga Book Fair – commercial autumn fair meant to promote and publicize the new books of Latvian publishers with program designated to book openings, events for children as well as the special program for book professionals in the first day of the Fair. LGA has been co-organizer of Latvian National Stand in Frankfurt Book Fair since 1994 and participates in steering commitee for Latvian national stand and program in London Book Fair for the period 2015-2019. LGA is also the coordinator of Latvian National stands and publishers’ delegations in Bologna International Book Fair and Leipzig Book Fair. LGA is represented in the National Council on Books and Reading for Latvian Ministry of Culture. In 2014 LGA has become a member of European Publishers Federation (FEP-EFP). In 2016 LGA has become a member in LATREPRO – Latvian collecting society for reprographical rights. In recent years LGA has expanded its lobbying activities and holds several educational events for publishers each year.
