AIE is the association for Italian book publishers since 1869. It counts more than 300 members, which represent around 90% of the total national book sector. Besides the traditional lobbying activities, AIE provides services to the publishing world and has created a R&D team in the field of digital technologies and publishing standards.
Since 1996 AIE is involved in a number of European projects concerning training, technological innovation and books and reading promotion, frequently as Coordinator. AIE coordinated ARROW, a flagship initiative of the EC, involving 18 EU countries, which developed a system for the management of rights in digital library programmes.
AIE is also active in reading promotion initiatives. In 2015 its national reading campaign #ioleggoperché experimented new ways of audience engagement, using a combination of social media and live events, which resulted in some 650,000 interaction on the website www.ioleggoperche.it on April 23rd, and 2,000 live events organised all over Italy.
Starting from 2016 AIE, in partnership with Fiera Milano (the world’s third biggest trade fair operator), organizes Tempo di Libri – Italian Book Fair, a unique opportunity for Italian publishers, allowing them to exploit 35,000 square metres of cutting-edge, modern and fullyequipped exhibition space, in order to promote reading and books. The first edition of the Fair will be held from Wednesday 19th to Sunday 23rd April 2017 in Fiera Milano Rho.
Aldus is the European Book Fairs’ network, offering book professionals new opportunities to develop their careers internationally, building capacities and collaboration opportunities through dedicated events, professional content resources, networking and training activities.
