AIE – Italian publishers association

AIE is the association for Italian book publishers since 1869. It counts around 400members, which represent around  90% of the total national book sector. Besides the traditional lobbying activities, AIE provides services to the publishing world: market surveys, particularly on electronic publishing issues; training courses; bibliographic database management (including the database of textbooks metadata); participation to national and international book-fairs with collective stands; publications. A

IE has a R&D team in the field of digital technologies and publishing standards and participates with relevant roles in key standard organisations such as ISBN international, Editeur, Readium, IDPF, ISO. Since 1996, AIE is involved in a number of European projects concerning training, technological innovation, books and reading promotion, frequently as Coordinator. AIE coordinates ALDUS UP, the network of European Book fairs (20 book fairs from 16 countries) aimed at fostering internationalisation of publishing and increase rights exchange for translations.

AIE is also active in reading promotion initiatives. Since 2015 its national reading campaign #ioleggoperché  www.ioleggoperche.it experimented new ways of audience engagement, using a combination of social media and live events all over Italy.

AIE has been coordinator of Aldus and Aldus Up projects.
