Lithuanian Publishers Association will host several interesting events in Vilnius Book fair. What are the benefits of book fairs, are they tangible and measurable? Is it beneficial only for the publishing market or for all culture? These questions will be sought to answer in the discussion “European Book Fairs: benefit and opportunities” (Thursday, February 21, 14.00, The hall 5.5.), an event organised in collaboration with Aldus. Friday we‘ll have the discussion “Vilnius – UNESCO literature city?” How having the Vilnius Book Fair can help us to reach this status? (Friday, February 22, 11.00 to 13.00, the Hall 1.3). The main theme of discussion: is Vilnius worthy of being nominated and listed on the UNESCO Literature Cities list and how having the Vilnius Book Fair can help us to attain this status? Participants of event: Bohdana Brylinska (UNESCO literature city), Krista Ojasaar (UNESCO literature city), Members of Lithuanian Publishers Association, Members of Vilnius Municipality. The UNESCO Cities of Literature network brings together over 1000 libraries, 70 literary festivals and over 900 bookshops from 28 cities.

Lithuanian Publishers Association is interested in reading promotion in Lithuania. We invite readers to the event Lietuva skaito! Po 20 metų / Lithuania reads, after 20 years (Friday, February 22, 17.00, Writers Hall). We will offer nostalgic conversations about who we and others were 20 years ago. This event is dedicated to reading promotion and twenty years of the Vilnius Book Fair. We‘ll discuss about writing and reading habits which formed over 20 years. What to expect? Poetry lines of youth, memories, old love and images from the press of that time. Writers, participating in the event: Virginija Cibarauskė, Daiva Čepauskaitė, Herkus Kunčius,u Renata Šerelytė. EUPL Prize winner Jānis Joņevs in Vilnius Book Fair. Meeting and Presentation of Lithuanian edition of his book “Jelgava 94” (Friday, February 22, 18.00, the Forum). Vilnius Book Fair will be visited by the Latvian writer and winner of EUPL Jānis Joņevs. Latvian author is going to represent his novel ,,Jelgava 94” which was released already 5 times in Latvia, translated into 9 languages and evaluated by European Union Prize for literature in 2014. Participants of interview – writer Jānis Joņevs and Lithuanian festival ,,Mėnuo Juodaragis” organizer Ugnius Liogė. Coordinator of dialogue – journalist Audrius Ožalas. Vilnius Club prize for the book Saturday, February 23, 13.00, Writers Hall. Vilnius Club and Lithuanian Publishers’ Association will award Vilnius Club Prize winners at Vilnius Book Fair. The prize is warded for books, dedicated to Vilnius, its culture, history and people. This year Prize was awarded to Alge Andriulyte for a book „Ferdynandas Ruszczycas: Civis Vilnensis Sum“ and Dainius Junevičius for a book „Abdonas Korzonas – pirmasis Vilniaus vaizdų fotografas“. Both books were published in Vilnius Art Academy publishing house in 2018. Both authors receive a € 1,000 bonus. Participants: winners Algė Andriulytė, Dainius Junevičius (Publishers House „Aukso žuvys“), Members of Lithuanian Publishers Association, Members of Vilnius Club. Vilnius Club acknowledgments – for efforts, continuity of work and attention to book quality – will be awarded to the Publishing House „Ausko Žuvys“.
