The Germán Sánchez Ruipérez Foundation (FGSR) and the International Publishing Distributors Association are organizing Readmagine, an event dedicated to innovation in reading and books, on November 16, 17 and 18 in Madrid  The three days of conversations, workshops, conferences, and meetings are organised in the framework of Aldus Up and hosted by the cultural centre Casa del Lector.

This annual meeting it has been focused for years on the most innovative side of the book sector. The 2021 edition is identified with the “duality” of Janus: on one side, considering the good figures in most of the countries (turnover of the book sector and time dedicated to reading) during 2020, on the other side,  the boost of e-commerce opens the dark  prospects of a monopolistic role of Amazon.

The first day will feature a workshop on Accessibility by Fondazione LIA and internal working sessions involving Aldus Up partners among the invited experts. The working sessions will focus on three issues:

  • Policies to promote reading for Europe
  • Policies to support the European book sector
  • European business models versus the GAFA model

During the second day will take place a meeting on innovation in the book sector that has been entitled “One year later” and that focuses on the debate and proposals at the strategic level for the European book sector. During the meeting the three discussion groups who met on first day will present their conclusions to the general audience, as the result of the works started on the lock-down edition of 2020.

The last day will host the8th International Digital Distributors Meeting, this year focussing in particular on the  new European business models around bookstores, Internet communities, digital distribution models and other schemes, after the digital acceleration.

With this approach FGSR seeks to promote learning across the boundaries as a means for innovation.
