Bologna Children’s Book Fair has a long tradition of working with the community of translators and their important role in the growth of the international copyright exchange.

It is therefore with great enthusiasm that the Bologna Children’s Book Fair had decided to support a special initiative organized by UK Children’s Reading Charity BookTrust.  ‘In Other Words’ is a project aimed to promote the translation and UK publication of outstanding children’s literature from around the world.

Funded by Arts Council England, BookTrust will sponsor sample translations from 10 children’s books, which have not previously been published in the English language, and present them to the UK publishing community at an event at the Bologna Book Fair on 4th April 2017. Four of these titles will be selected as specially commended ‘honour titles’ and all 10 titles will be available for British publishers to purchase from the rights holders. Titles that are purchased by British publishers will be supported by a £1,500 grant towards marketing, publicity and touring.

Selection will be carried out by a panel of experts chosen by BookTrust, including top children’s translators and children’s book experts.

BookTrust is asking publishers, agents and scouts from around the world for submissions of children’s books that are not currently published in English, but would be suitable for publishing in the UK. Submissions, which need to be made via the website  http://www.booktrust.org.uk/in-other-words,  opened on 1st September and closed on 26th September 2016.
