Lecturer - National University of Timor Lorosa'e, Timor-Leste
Dr. Marcal Gusmao obtained his PhD in agronomy at the University of Western Australia (UWA), Australia in 2011, and a Master's in Soil Management and Conservation at the University of Adelaide, Australia in 2003, and a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Mechanization at the Universitas Hasanuddin, Indonesia in 1998. He started his career as a lecturer at the Faculty of Agriculture, National University of East Timor, from 2000 to date. He held the National Focal Point for Access to Genetic Resources and Sharing of Benefits Arising from Their Utilization under the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (UNCBD) from 2012 to 2022. He is now serving as the vice director for the Centre for Climate Change and Biodiversity within the Faculty of Agriculture, UNTL. His research areas are crop adaptation to harsh environments, including drought and flooding, agroforestry, and soil and water conservation. He has a number of peer-reviewed publications, articles, and has attended international and national conferences as a speaker.
